What do I believe God wants us to know? God wants us to press on
Why? The promise land comes with the pressing

Today we are in part two of the series “Inherit the Land” What I shared last week is that there is WORD God has given to us in this room and the WORD is “Inherit the Land”
There are lands, promises lands that God wants us to inherit, not just to receive but take possession, ownership, stewardship, and dominion of.
For some of us it is our Spiritual House we are in now that God wants us to take possession and let God have ownership of our whole Spiritual lives, all the rooms
Others of us it is with our Physcial bodies
Others it is relationally…Fatherhood, Motherhood, Wife,
Others vocationally
Others ministry wise
This list goes on.
What we learned from Joshua 1 last week is there are three things that are needed to “inherit the land”
Joshua lays out three things to inherit the land
1. Arise, go....even locally, spiritual house…you need to move....I know we would all love the an EASY BUTTON
2. Be strong and couragours 3 times…why? There are giants in the land....
- Giants of FEAR
- Failure
- Worry
- Doubt
3. Follow the Word
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Today I am going to lay out for us a few more principles to help us to “inherit the land”
We are going to read about them in Phil 3…It is a charge the Apostle Paul gives the church of Philippi and us while He is in prison....AND Tese principles are going to go against the theme of the unofficial holiday we had this last FRIDAY
- Any body know what holiday we celebrate on the 2nd Friday in Jaunary?
Quiters Day....it is a day were we celebrate that 50% of the people have already quit their New Years Resolutions
Horrible Holiday…Hey look at me I quit
What Gods’ Word says is don’t celebrate that holiday...
One you are not a quitter…that is not your identity....YOU are a VICTOR...

You are victor…who God has given an inheritance too and
Principles to live victorious
Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.
Thee Apostle Paul says something so astonishing....I want you to know I have not OBTAINED THE GOAL....I AM NOT PERFECT....I STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO
we inherit different land from time to time
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained.
Let’s pull out three words
FORGET what lies behind
Be singulary focused
We see this play out in the natural
On August 7, 1954 when Roger Bannister and John Landy met for the first time in the one mile run.
Both men had broken the four minute barrier previously that year.
It was the know as the “miracle mile”
With the finish line in front of him John Landy look over his shoulder and as he did Roger Bannister ran past him beating him by less than a second.
John Landy looked over his shoulder and and what do you think happened?

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

anybody have these past tapes that play in your head....TO GET THE PROMOTIO....GET MY SPIRTUAL HOUSE IN ORDER....You know you tried this before but you failed
or you hear friends, family members, and foes who become your advisory....CARLY....
Confirmed in your heart and by the church
YOU CAN’T BUT HE CAN…BREAK THE TAPES
We forget what is behind by REMEMBERing the TRUTH of where we left, DON’T FORGET, WHERE YOU ARE LEAVING
we can romantize the past....
We even see this with slavary
And they said to one another, “Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”
Go back to slavery???
IT USE TO BE SOME MUCH BETTER....NO, IT WAS WORSE!
The good ol days....and many times they were but they are not good anymore, because they are over
PRESS ON/STRAIN TOWARDS WHAT IS AHEAD
use will power along with God power to move ahead
I love the word for Press on…it means CHASE the prize like a hunter....Be so focused…strain means to stretch
It is going to take effort....it is no going to come by accident…It is going to come by PATIENT PRESSING ON OBEDIANCE
I am reminded of
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
Grace is not opposed to effort. It is opposed to earning. Dallas Willard.
ANYBODY
Discpline in working out and self-ctonrol in what you eat.
It is going to take self-control and discipline....How do I get that? PRAYER, WILL, and PEOPLE
Pray for it
Use your own will…FRUIT of SELf-CONTROL happens when we walk by the Spirit
Do it when you don’t want to
People…I was just talking to someone this week who runs and has run some half marathons and ran her first marathon and she said I couldn’t have done it without my sister who ran her.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
I don’t want to run 12 miles
There are days you are not going to want to inherit the land....I want to go back.
